Everhot on PowerMate for Deliveries

Guy Goring Managing Director of Everhot Cookers aims for maximum safety and professionalism with site deliveries and installations. The Gloucestershire-based company manufactures and delivers upwards of 300 range-style cookers a year - each weighing up to 250kg.

The law says such tasks have to be the subject of appropriate risk assessments and implemented through best practice… common sense says you do it professionally in a manner that, as far as possible, eliminates the handling risks.

Brilliant
One thing is certain - the days of manual heave and shove are over which is why Guy mechanised loading, unloading and installation using PowerMate stairclimbers from Stanley Handling from virtually the beginning of his business operation. Do they Work? "Absolutely brilliant," he says and has backed up his comment by supplementing the first two he purchased in 1997 with two more in 2002 and another in 2004 to cope with the growing business volume.

"Frankly, I don't know what we would have done without PowerMate," he says. 'They not only take out the personnel risk they minimise the possibility of costly damage to product and customers' premises into the bargain. They're light enough to travel on-vehicle and so versatile they handle the heavy work throughout the distribution and installation cycle"

Everhot use PowerMate LE1 machines. They power the cookers off delivery vans, over land, over thresholds, and up and down stairs where necessary, negotiating landings with ease, right to the point of delivery. The LE1's integral leg extension mechanism balances the very concentrated load imposed by the cooker, allowing the operator to concentrate on manoeuvring without the necessity for back-breaking manual handling.

Efficient Deliveries
Deliveries which would otherwise take two operators can be accomplished by one using the PowerMate.

The LE1 has a load carrying capacity of just under 350kg, a height-to-vehicle deck of 1000mm and a load balancing spread of 840mm. Construction is based on a robust aluminium frame. Features include a load-hold clutch, one-way wheel brakes dual load straps and large 200mm diameter wheels for smooth overland transfer. Units are supplied with a gel-filled leak-proof battery and an electronic charger. Everhot use a slip sheet accessory to simplify corner manoeuvring and could employ on-board charging if required. Other accessories including detachable toe plates, landing extenders and cylinder and barrel locators are options which broaden the potential applications.

Training
As is the case with all PowerMate products operator training was included in the package from Stanley Handling. Training and routine servicing are essential elements in meeting relevant Health and Safety manual handling requirements.
